POLICE dogs from Wiltshire Police helped track down a group of men near the M4 after they fled from the scene of a crash.

Two men were arrested shortly after midnight last night after four men were seen running away from the wreckage of a Subaru Forrester over a footbridge and into woodland in the Leigh Delamere area. The car had false plates and was believed to be stolen from the Thames Valley area.

A 26-year-old and a 29-year-old from the London area were found hiding in a tree and they were arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle and are currently in Melksham custody. The other two men are still on the run.

Inspector Andy Fee said: “This was a good result for officers who were able to liaise with colleagues in Avon and Somerset and Thames Valley and arrest two men who were believed to be inside the vehicle when it crashed.

“We will continue to work with our neighbouring forces to locate the other two men seen in the area and we would ask any members of the public who either saw the collision, or saw the four men in the Leigh Delamere area around midnight and 1am to get in touch.”
