CHILDREN in Chippenham continue to experience the legacy of the 2012 Olympics, as the Chippenham Games took place for its sixth year.

The Chippenham Sports Partnership and Chippenham Town Council organised an event where over 450 Year 6 pupils aged 10-11 tried 10 activities, from climbing the bouldering wall to tchoukball, not forgetting the games favourite – the mega-marathon.

Box Paralympic gold medallist Stephanie Millward MBE gave an inspiring speech before declaring the games open, sharing her story of her quest for Paralympic gold and brought along her medals to show the pupils.

The Games' aim is to inspire children to try new activities, with each school given details of sports clubs in the Chippenham and Corsham area so pupils can continue to participate in sport.

Stephanie Davis, manager of the Partnership, said: "It is a real community partnership, without their support, the games wouldn’t be what they are today and we certainly wouldn’t have been able to keep the legacy going.”

The Sports Partnership thanked Chippenham Town Council for making Stanley Park available, and Wiltshire Council, The Rotary Club of Chippenham and local sports clubs for helping organise the day.
