PUPILS at Hardenhuish School have been encouraging others to go green at home and at school following a specialist Green Week at the school.

Members of the Green Team, which are comprised of Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils, who meet weekly to work on ways to raise the awareness of green issues in the school, organised their Green Culture Change Day on Friday, June 23.

A number of eco-friendly activities took place during the week, ranging from a sustainable cake sale to an eco-treasure hunt competition and culminated in all Year 9's being challenged to build a wind turbine from scrap material.

Mr Rob Kelland, one of Hardenhuish's Science teachers, said: "The Green Team have put a lot of work in over a number of weeks to make Green Week a success, and it is fantastic to see our crucial sustainability message being discussed all over the school.

"The Green Culture Change Day was a huge success, and I hope that our Year 9 pupils have taken away a lot of ideas to shape both their own futures and the future of our wider community and planet."

All pupils also took part in an ideal home competition, where they had to design a home for 2050 and consider the impact of global warming, power shortages and rising costs. Entries will be judged by architects Stride Treglown in Bristol and the winner will receive a work experience placement.
