HUNDREDS of people made their way through Chippenham as part of a march of witness to celebrate the Easter holiday and remember the crucifixion of Jesus.

The annual event was once again organised by Chippenham Churches Together and began with a service held at the Central Methodist Church on Monkton Hill.

Almost 350 people then untied for a walk from the church to the Buttercross in the Market Place, led by a banner promoting Chippenham Churches Together.

During the walk leaflets were handed out explaining the reason for the Good Friday walk and the good news of the Christian Easter message.

Once at the Buttercross, there was a short outdoor service of praise and worship where special prayers were said for the town before hot cross buns and Easter biscuits were handed out.

Secretary for Chippenham Churches Together, Noreen Berry, said: “Many people expressed that this event was a great witness and blessing for the town of Chippenham.

“We are very pleased with our brand new banner, as it is something that we have been wanting for a long time, and we feel that its clear message will now help to identify who we are and the great relationships we have between our churches working together in unity.

“We are very excited for the future and we are very much looking forward to using it at further events, such as the upcoming free community Fun Day that we have planned for July 1 at the Monkton Park Island area.”
