A COMMUNITY day to help finish a new outdoor learning and play area costing almost £10,000 has been held at Christian Malford Primary School.

The Wishing Tree Horticulture has managed the project and children have been involved in the process by planting trees and plants as well as creating natural art and a den.

The new area – which was funded via an £8,000 grant from Tesco's Bags of Help Scheme and £1,500 from Christian Malford Parish Council – will be incorporated into the day-to-day learning for children.

Head of the school Andrea Kaye said: “The area will be used by all children during lunch and play times.

“In addition, the outdoor learning environment is beneficial to children with special educational needs.

“Using this area will improve the well-being of this cohort of children in particular enabling them to progress well, feel supported and enjoy the primary phase of their education.”

The outside area consists of a sensory garden, natural loose parts to encourage play and a welly store with a living roof.

There is also a log circle and wooden learning table for children to use during their lessons and activities.

Claire Kennedy, chair of the local governing body, said: “I am so excited about the opportunities this project has given to the pupils of the school.

“We are fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country and the new area will enable the children to engage with their environment during lesson and play time all year round.”
