WORSHIPPERS will follow two donkeys through Chippenham in a traditional Palm Sunday procession.
Donkeys Rodney and Fred will leave Sheldon Road Methodist Church, in Audley Road, at 9.30am, heading for St Peter’s Church in Lords Mead, recreating the Bible story which saw Jesus ride into Jerusalem on a donkey.
The Rev Andy Gubbins said: “The idea of donkeys came from a serving Chippenham police officer who mentioned memories of a donkey and Palm Sunday services in the past when I went to ask for police support and permission this year.”
The procession will go up Sheldon Road and Frogwell, arriving at St Peter’s for a 10.30am service.
The donkeys belong to Calne farmer Dave Buscombe, of Dave and Ewe in Calne.
