GRAFFITI was emblazoned across the outside of Ukip MEP Dr Julia Reid’s Chippenham constituency office, less than 24 hours after Spain and the UK locked horns over Gibraltar.

Gibraltar, which is represented by Dr Julia Reid in the European Parliament, is a British Overseas Territory but voted almost unanimously to remain in the EU in the Brexit referendum.

As a result, the Spanish government has called for joint sovereignty over Gibraltar.

The offensive marks on the front of Dr Reid’s constituency office, in the Market Place, are believed to have been sprayed overnight on Sunday. She declined to comment on the incident this week.

Antiques expert Marc Allum, who lives near the offices in Chippenham, spotted the graffiti on Monday morning and posted an image on Twitter.

He said: “I was just driving by and saw it. That kind of language is disgusting and I did wonder, should I put this on Twitter?

“Someone obviously feels very strongly.

“Julia Reid being connected with Gibraltar is obviously a target for real feeling, I think, and someone has gone to a lot of effort to create a neat stencil.

“Whatever your political views, using that kind of language, it’s a disgrace basically, but more and more I think how Brexit has affected us as a nation.”
