STAFF at Nationwide in Chippenham pedalled for more than 150km as they did an indoor cycle ride to raise money for a national charity.

The local branch managed to raise £111 for charity Scope, which offers advice and support to disabled people and their families to ensure that they have the same opportunities in life as able-bodied people.

A static bike was donated by Anytime Fitness in Swindon and throughout the day on Friday (March 31) staff at the store on Market Place took it in turns to jump in the saddle and turn the pedals.

Customers were able to buy homemade cakes and branches in Melksham and Devizes also took part in the fundraiser, with all three stores collectively raising almost £600.

Lydia Parmenter, branch manager at Nationwide Chippenham, said: “We all had our fundraising tops on and took turns on the bike and we managed the 100km by the end of the morning so we went for 150km which we smashed.

“Our branch manager in Melksham, Carli, she works quite closely with Scope because of her son and so she’s been to all the local shops here and in Devizes and she’s done lots of things in the past.

“It’s really nice to raise the awareness, we’ve had a lot of our customers come in and say they have heard of Scope but then asked what they do.

“Last week we had a meeting with Doorway and we want to build a connection with a local charity and we should be doing a fundraising event for them soon.”
