MEMBERS of cheerleading group Chippenham Vibes were left jumping for joy after they claimed victory in a number of national events, including Spring Spirit Senior Grand Champions.

The group also won three Spring Spirit Champions at the British Cheerleading Association’s national championships in Exeter last month, where they competed against 28 other squads.

Ten routines were performed on the day, with the Chippenham squad – consisting of 23 members – placing in the top three in nine of them.

Member Samantha Doyle, whose three sons, Ari, Leo and Jani also compete, said: “We were delighted to get first place, we got the highest score for senior routines on the day.”

Three members from the squad, coach Emily Alner, Annabel Flay and Molly Gale, will also represent England at the World Cheerleading Championships at Walt Disney World in America later this month.

Chippenham Vibes is part of the Emily Alner Academy, which teaches a number of different styles of dance that are used in their routines, including tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, modern, acrobatics and also musical theatre.

The school has a mix of abilities, including children with learning disabilities and teaches both boys and girls of ages ranging from 3 to 63.

The group will perform their annual routine, which this year will be themed around the Lion King and Grease, this Friday and Saturday (March 24-25) from 7pm in the Neeld.
