THE sixth running of the Christian Malford Scarecrow Trail will take place later this month with toys and board games being this year’s theme.

Forty-six scarecrows will be dotted around the village for children and their parents to find and name during the popular event, which last year managed to raise £4,500 for the primary school and pre-school in the village.

Organiser Laura Sidhu said: “We start in October and entries open in January and it basically started at the pre-school but that was too small so it went in with the primary school.

“Forty-six is about the same as last year and mostly its families from the school and pre-school who make them but we are getting more people who obviously see it going on and like it so they take part.

“We also have a children’s trail, so every single scarecrow has got a little picture that the children have drawn and it’s just a little extra thing.”

A £100 prize will be given to the child who correctly names the most scarecrows, as well as £50, £30 and £20 for the best scarecrows.

A trophy will also be awarded to the scarecrow voted the best by other scarecrow designers as ‘the people that build them know what goes into making them’, according to Mrs Sidhu.

The event will take place on March 25-26 between 10am-5pm on both days with entry sheets costing £3.

Beginning and ending at the Recreation Ground, there will be face-painting, a bouncy castle and BBQ for children and their families to enjoy.
