CHIPPENHAM MP Michelle Donelan has hosted a meeting in Parliament to discuss the Prince’s Trust youth report, which shows that young people are suffering from a lack of self-confidence.

The annual report, which began in 2009, reveals that more than a quarter of young people do not feel in control of their lives which could be due to a number of factors ranging from family life to physical health.

The report found that 45 per cent of young people questioned feel stressed about body image and 61 per cent feel a lack of self-confidence which holds them back, while 37 per cent were stressed about how to cope at work or school.

The Prince’s Trust, founded by Prince Charles in 1976, is a youth charity that helps young people aged between 13 and 30 get into jobs and education.

Miss Donelan said: “Earlier this month, I went to see the Wiltshire Princes’ Trust team to meet many of the young people whose lives are being transformed thanks to the work of the Trust.

“The report that was released during my event is an important tool in assessing young people’s mental wellbeing.

“The Government and local councils must make this a priority. I look forward to continuing working with the Prince’s Trust to support vulnerable young people in our community.”
