TWO former Grittleton House School teachers are trying to go it alone and provide maths tuition classes for children and adults in Chippenham.

Vanda McCann and Karen McGreevy have more than 30 years of experience teaching, and spent more than 20 years at Grittleton House School before it closed last year.

The duo have decided to go back to the classroom but rather than teach in a mainstream school they will use their knowledge of maths to work 1-to-1 with pupils in extensive tuition classes with their new business, McMaths Tuition.

“Teaching is what we do, we don’t want to have to crowd control,” said Mrs McCann, 55, who lives in Chippenham.

“We know we’re really good at our jobs and we were delighted when Sheldon School said they would let us use a classroom.

“We’ve not done tuition classes before so it’s been a learning curve which we have enjoyed and we’re starting off small just to make sure everything is running correct

“We’re hoping that people will come to this class because they’re small classes and we’re used to dealing with all different ages.”

The sessions are open to both children and adults and will focus on the GCSE maths curriculum, which recently changed requiring young adults to get a level 5, or equivalent of a C/B grade.

The sessions will be held at Sheldon School between April 18-22 over the Easter holiday.
