A CHIPPENHAM artist has been toasting a glass and saying cheers after winning a competition to design a new label for a limited edition bottle of gin.

Hope Blamire entered Dunnet Bay Distillery’s competition to design a label for its new limited edition Rock Rose Gin.

The 41-year-old, originally from Ayrshire, Scotland, designed the label to be a carpet of multi-coloured rock roses and other Scottish flowers by using a scalpel blade to cut the ornate detail from the original Rock Rose label.

“I chose to base my design around the Rock Rose flower and other Scottish wildflowers as this is a subject I enjoy painting and I especially wanted to create a vibrant design with plenty of detail and colour,” said Mrs Blamire.

“The competition stated that the design of the label should be recognisable as the original Rock Rose gin label which is why I intricately cut the detail from the original label to show the wildflowers underneath.

“I'm absolutely delighted to have won a year's supply of my own Rock Rose Gin. It was my dream competition, Scotland, gin and art.”

Only 750 bottles of the limited edition gin will be produced featuring Mrs Blamire’s design, who has spent more than 12 years teaching art at King Edward's School in Bath.

Martin Murray, co-founder and master distiller at Dunnet Bay, said: “We were blown away by both the number of entries we received in our search and the quality of all the designs.

“Whilst there was stiff competition, Hope was such a worthy winner and I personally had a lot of fun creating a recipe to match up to her beautiful design.

“We hope she enjoys her prize, a year's supply of her very own gin.”
