A 12-hour music festival to commemorate the life of a Chippenham drummer and collect money for charity will once again be held in the town.

GuppFest 2017 is being held for the sixth time in memory of Mark Guppy, a local drummer who died suddenly in 2009 at the age of 42.

His death came only a month before his partner Ali Pibworth gave birth to their second child, also named Mark, and since then the event has been held almost every year to remember Mr Guppy and raise money for charities.

Mr Guppy’s brother, Jason, said: “When Mark died in the August we held a memorial for him just as a sort of send-off and after that people said we should do one every year.

“There’s definitely a lot more new faces, but it’s still close because it’s still Mark’s friends.

“It’s just nice keeping music alive.”

Eleven local bands, including several Mr Guppy performed in, will perform on the day including Satellite Beach, Reloaded and Severance across a range of genres.

Previous events have raised nearly £10,000 for charity, with money this year going towards the British Heart Foundation.

There will also be a raffle including hampers and gift vouchers, with hopes high that the event can raise £3,000.

GuppFest 2017 will take place on Saturday, February 18 at the Constitutional Club, in Foghamshire, from midday until midnight with tickets £5 on the door.
