PUPILS at Abbeyfield School in Chippenham had a glimpse into the future after taking part in a robotics workshop organised by the University of the West of England (UWE).

The Rise of the Robots workshop allowed 25 students aged between 13 and 16 years old to build and programme their own robots, while being overseen by Harry Gee from UWE and founder of the robotics company, Agilic.

The visit was part of a prize after the school entered the Save the World competition last year, where pupils from Abbeyfield competed against other schools in the region to identify and solve some of the world’s most significant environmental challenges.

Geography teacher Miss Jones said: “It was a really inspiring session today, despite some setbacks, and a lot of head scratching on the role of the pipe cleaner, all were successful and we soon had our very own robot wars taking place in the learning centre.”
