AN anti-litter campaign is being launched across Chippenham this weekend to not only encourage people to pick up any rubbish they come across but also to get outdoors more.

The Love Chippenham campaign will begin this Saturday (February 11) with a group litter pick in Monkton Park at the ‘Black Swamp’, which was named one of the UK’s grottiest spots in last year's Clean for the Queen event.

The spot was nominated by Elaine Massung from litter picking group Off the Ground, who along with Beverly Walker have launched the Love Chippenham campaign in the town.

Greater awareness and new methods of tackling litter could be trialled, including using people’s bins to help tackle the problem as well as an outdoor bingo game to encourage people to explore Chippenham while keeping an eye out for rubbish.

“It’s about getting people to notice some of the little details as well as getting people out and enjoying their community a bit more,” said Mrs Massung.

“The idea of the bingo game is people have to try and find the location shown in the pictures so they are walking about.”

Off the Ground is working with the Chippenham BID, Wiltshire Council and Chippenham Town Council to help tackle the problem of litter in the town.

Simon Philpott, Chippenham BID manager, said: “Providing a safe and clean environment in our town is one of the objectives of the Chippenham BID, so we are delighted to support this initiative brought forward by Off The Ground and hope that the users of the town will feel the same way.”

The Love Chippenham campaign will last for four weeks, beginning with a litter pick from 10am-2pm in Monkton Park on Saturday which will meet at the basketball courts.
