A MEMORIAL to publicly honour those who have lost their lives in conflicts is being planned for the village of Yatton Keynell, and the parish council is looking for artists or designers to come forward and create it.

Fiona Plowman, a member of Yatton Keynell Parish Council, said: “We’re trying to fund it and get someone to design it.

“We’ve wanted one since the start of the 100-year commemorations for the First World War. We want it to be modern but in keeping with the village. We’re just going to have something simple.

“There’s a small memorial in the church but nothing outside that commemorates anyone who lost their lives in conflicts since the First World War.”

Councillors are hoping that any memorial would be completed and unveiled by November 11, 2018, to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The memorial would be built on a plot of land at the entrance to the village hall, donated by the Yatton Keynell Recreation Association.

“We will start fundraising and applying for grants just as soon as we have got some designs and idea of costs,” added Mrs Plowman.

“We put out stuff in the village asking people for feedback and some are very much in favour.

“We’re hoping that someone will read this article and come to us.”
