ST ANDREW’S Church in Castle Combe has received a grant of £10,000 which will go towards a new disabled toilet and kitchen facilities at the Grade I listed building.

The church has received the money from the National Churches Trust, which have distributed £596,000 amongst 36 churches across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The grant for St Andrew’s Church will go towards the Make History project and will be spent as part of a £200,000 extension, which includes adding a small kitchen, disabled toilet and moving the vestry.

Church warden Sally Constable said: “We’ve just done a huge roof job on the church for just under £100,000 and grants did help us but they gave us another which will go towards our next project.

“We need about £200,000 and we’re doing quite well. I’d say we’re over half way but we’ve still got money to raise.

“We’re quite a busy church with many events like weddings, concerts and we do have a lot of people visit being in Castle Combe.

“We need running water in the church, we don’t have that and it means if we have an event we need to bring water.

“We also don’t have a toilet and people often travel a long way.

“We’re hoping to start next year, it won’t be early in the year but we’re hoping maybe three-quarters of the way through next year we’ll be starting.

“I’d like to thank the Parochial Council who have been amazing, I’m the only church warden at St Andrew’s and I couldn’t have done the fundraising without them.”
