A CHIPPENHAM woman has raised £1,000 following a charity bike ride in memory of her husband, who died from cancer only 14 months after they married.

Roz Brown cycled 60 miles for two charities who helped her husband, Oli, in the final weeks of his life after he was diagnosed with high grade neuro-endocrine cancer and died five months later at the age of 33 in August, 2016.

She was joined by ten friends as they cycled from the Curio Lounge in Stroud to Portivo Lounge in Gloucester and Toro Lounge in Cirencester before finishing back at Curio.

“People were really generous. I had a rattle of the buckets and they didn’t feel very heavy because people had put notes in,” said Dr Brown, aged 29, who married her husband at the All Saints Church in Christian Malford in May 2015.

“Everyone’s been great, the fact that ten other people turned up to cycle with me, our friends and family got stuck in, and the lounges and the public got involved is brilliant. It really felt like a celebration.

“Someone said we did Oli proud and I think we did.”

Funds raised will go towards Leckhampton Court, a Sue Ryder care home which gave Mr Brown palliative care, and Longfield Hospice in Minchinhampton which provided a place for Mr and Mrs Brown to meet their palliative consultant as well as home carers and bereavement counselling.

The Royal Free charity will also receive funds to research into neuro-endocrine cancer.
