MEMBERS of the Chippenham Rotary Club have raised more than £800 for charity after singing carols outside supermarkets in the town.

The group, who have sung carols for the previous two years, sang outside Sainsbury’s on Bath Road and Morrisons on West Cepen Way last weekend.

Chairman of the Rotary International Committee, Rick Squires, said: “Many thanks to both Sainsbury’s and Morrisons for giving us the opportunity to sing; it enabled us to have a great deal of fun and entertain the public.

“Everyone was very generous in their contributions which enabled us to collect just over £800 from the two sessions.

“As well as celebrating Christmas, we were also marking a century for Rotary’s own charity, which is one of the largest internationally.

“Through this, Rotary members change lives and improve communities all over the world.

“And that’s definitely something worth celebrating. Through our charity, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects to provide clean water, fight disease, promote peace, provide basic education, and grow local economies.

“We’ve also been a leader in the fight to eradicate polio worldwide.”
