STAFF at King’s Lodge Primary School in Chippenham have been left delighted after it received a Good Ofsted rating, receiving praise for its quality of teaching and the confidence of children.

The school, located on Lodge Road, was inspected on October 5 this year and retained its rating from its previous visit in 2011.

The inspection found that “pupils are confident, self-assured and happy” and the quality of teaching is strong in Key Stage 2.

Children with special educational needs or disabilities are making good progress “because they receive strong support from teachers and teaching assistants”.

Praise was also aimed at headteacher Kim Spencer, who took over in January, for her “drive and determination” and “high expectations of yourself, your staff and all pupils”.

“We’re very pleased with the rating, we can go forward with lots of our ideas and keep inspiring the children,” said Mrs Spencer.

“We’re proud of the fact that teaching was strong and it was very complimentary about the children.

“One Year 6 pupil was asked “what do you think of our exit from the EU?” and they said “that’s quite a gamble”.

“They were very complimentary about the confidence and behaviour of the children.

“I believe that the children that come to this school have the capacity to get much higher than average expectations.”

The report also recommended suggestions which would allow the school to be rated Outstanding, including that “action is taken to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Key Stage 1” and that parental engagement is increased through better communication.
