A CHIPPENHAM woman has braved the shave and raised almost £4,000 for charity in memory of her mum who died from cancer last month.

Sarah Styles lost her locks last weekend and raised £2,550 online for Macmillan Cancer Support and £1,410 on the day for Dorothy House Hospice which supported her mum, Gail.

The 62-year-old was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on June 26 this year and died on September 22. Her funeral was held on October 6.

The hair shave took place at the Old Lane pub, on Lodge Road, last Saturday and included a raffle, tombola, lucky dip, cake sale and kids entertainer.

“It was absolutely brilliant, the whole place was rammed because there was such a good turnout,” said Miss Styles, who works as a medical administrator.

“There was a couple of hundred people throughout the day and we raised a lot of money, especially when my initial target was £250.

“The head shave was alright, it came off easier than I thought it would but I’ve noticed a massive difference.

“It’s freezing, I cycle to work and I can’t believe the difference.

“It really brought the community together and everyone from Pewsham was down there, it was beautiful to see them.”

Miss Styles, who has two children, Amelia aged six and five-year-old Ewan, plans to continue raising money for charity into the future.

“Dorothy House have always got events on to raise money because a lot of their money has to be raised through donations, so I’m planning on doing a lot of them.”
