WILTSHIRE College have been celebrating ten years in the fast line as their motorsport centre at the Castle Combe Circuit reached the iconic milestone this week.

The centre at the Wiltshire circuit opened its doors in 2006 at a cost of £500,000 to help integrate education with employment and technological innovations.

The college has two Formula Ford race cars which competed in this year’s championship and allows students to work in a realistic working environment in preparation for entry into the industry.

Jack Price was one of the very first students to study on the BTEC National Diploma and was there last weekend during the final race meeting of the season.

The 27-year-old from Melksham, who now works for Avon Cooper Tires, said: “I grew up watching and helping my dad with classic cars and so I knew from an early age that I wanted to pursue a career in something related to cars.

“I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do but I did enjoy the production side and after studying the initial diploma at Lackham, I knew I wanted to continue at the Castle Combe facility.

“Being based at a race track was just fantastic and I got heavily involved.

“Working as part of the Formula Ford team and moving around in different roles meant that I really learned all aspects of the car.”

Couple Anna and Pete Zebedee-Hardy along with ten guests were lucky enough to be invited to the motorsport facility last weekend during the final racing day of the year at the circuit.

Mrs Zebedee-Hardy said: “I hadn’t experienced Formula Ford before so it was something completely new and a great way to mark our tenth wedding anniversary which was on August 17.”
