THE mum of Wiltshire woman Becky Godden has praised the actions of the detective who ruined his own career to find her daughter’s body, after a jury convicted former Swindon taxi driver Christopher Halliwell of her murder.

This week Wiltshire Police said they were not ruling out the fact that double killer Halliwell could be responsible for other murders.

Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher was deemed to have broken police guidelines when questioning Halliwell after the taxi driver was arrested in connection with the murder of Sian O’Callaghan in 2011.

As well as leading police to Sian’s body, Halliwell also led them to where he had buried Becky, who had gone missing in 2003.

As a result of his actions Fulcher was suspended and later resigned.

Following the guilty verdict at Bristol Crown Court, Karen Edwards, Becky’s mum, said: “I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart Steve Fulcher for bringing my little girl home, I will always respect him and be indebted to him, for making that moral decision as a police officer."

This week Det Supt Sean Memory, who led the successful investigation into Miss Godden’s murder, said: “It is fair to say that there may be other victims as there is an eight-year gap between the murders of Becky and Sian, however I am not linking him to any other investigation at this time. If Halliwell would like to speak to me in the future I would be happy to meet with him.”

It is thought possible Halliwell could now be questioned about the disappearance of mother-of-three Tina Pryer, who was last seen getting into a taxi near Trowbridge in April 2001.
