THOSE walking through Chippenham are unlikely to get far without seeing one of the BID’s Town Hosts who have become an integral part of the community.

Matthew Corr and Chris Williams have been involved with the initiative since it was set up in May 2015, and provide a number of roles within the town.

This includes providing information and feedback to and from levy paying businesses and the general public, are first aid trained and are radio linked to security teams to help keep the town safe amongst other things.

“I’ve been a town host since the scheme started because I wanted to help promote the town and make it a safer place,” said Mr Corr, 26, who works full-time in the role.

“Compared to the first two or three months the response from people and businesses has been very positive.”

Voted in by Chippenham businesses in November 2014, the BID, or Business Improvement Districts, was introduced in April last year with the aim of promoting businesses in the town and establishing a range of money-saving initiatives.

As well as the Town Host initiative, there has also been the launch of the Chippenham Connected website, free Wi-Fi in the town centre and parking initiatives.

“I came from a customer service background and I enjoy working with the public and trying to solve problems,” said Mr Williams, 51, who works part-time in the role.

Ben Gregory, Chippenham BID director, said: “Chippenham BID’s Town Hosts are the first port of call for visitors and businesses alike, so we are extremely pleased that they can offer an information point to help maintain an important presence in the town.

“Their Security Industry Authority (SID) training has also heightened their security knowledge, allowing them to keep the town safe and secure on a daily basis.”
