GIRLS and boys in Chippenham are being encouraged get into the swing of things and attend a free session with a Wiltshire baton twirling team this weekend.

Organised by Melksham-based Enigma Twirl Team, the free event will be held at the Olympiad Sports Centre from 11am-1pm on Sunday (September 18).

The group was founded four years ago by Tanya Denning-Kuijper who has represented England in the sport, including winning two European titles and has more than 30 years’ experience.

She said: “It’s one of those sports that’s a hidden sport but we’ve been trying to get it into the Olympics for years.

“People don’t realise how big it is and what people see at carnivals is nothing in comparison to what these team members do.

“Baton twirling is a hidden gem that helps in so many areas of children and adult development, confidence, fine motor skills, balance, teamwork, self-discipline, fitness, exercise, cross over ability and flexibility.

“If they want to have a go at something different just go for it and give it a try.

“Depending on how many people we get we could start a session over in Chippenham.”

Boys and girls from four-years-old and above will have the chance to meet members of the team and take part in activities during the day.
