A MAN has been arrested in Chippenham after police officers suspected him of attempting to supply class A drugs.

The 25-year-old from Birmingham was seen acting suspiciously near to the former Bridge Centre in the town centre at 3.30pm on August 31.

Officers followed the man along Lovers Walk and into Borough Parade where he was stopped and searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The man was then taken to Monkton Park where the officers found class A drugs and a phone relating to the sale of hard drugs. He was then arrested and taken to Melksham Police Station.

PC Joe Shanklin, of the Dedicated Crime Team, said: “This man was spotted acting suspiciously near to the town centre in Chippenham and was seen to be mixing with class A drug users. As a result of suspicious behaviour, he was arrested and found with a number of wraps concealed on his person.”

Later that day, the man was further arrested for an outstanding warrant of £1,600 of unpaid fines. He was released on bail pending further investigation, and whilst the drugs are being sent for testing, by Wiltshire Police.

PC Shanklin added: “We are committed to tackling drug activity in Wiltshire and would urge members of the community to report any suspicious behaviour to call police on 101. We will follow up all information we receive from the public and will treat it with the utmost discretion.”
