AN art collection by a leading British artist is expected to fetch more than £50,000 when it is put up for sale at an auction in Kington Langley next month.

The 100-work collection by Jacob Sutton comprises of a range of paintings including some by his father, Royal Academy member Philip Sutton.

Buyers from across the country are expected to converge on Kington Langley when the sale takes place on September 15 at the Barn Gallery by Chippenham Auction Rooms.

Principal auctioneer Richard Edmonds said: “The Sutton Collection is arguably one of the most important bodies of work to be offered to the art market in years.

“It comprises a significant number of never-before-seen works by Philip Sutton, many of which are portraits of Jacob.

“They’ve been kept in the Sutton family for years so it’s a real coup to be able to offer them to the public.

“We chose Kington Langley partly because of its wonderful Barn Gallery, which has been growing in stature, but also because of its exceptional transport connections to the M4 and Chippenham railway station.

“This is a very major art sale, so we’re expecting potential buyers and viewers to come from right across the UK and possibly internationally.”

The Sutton Collection will be on public display in the Barn Gallery from September 13-15 before it is put under the hammer.
