CHIPPENHAM councillor Rajvir Gill has given birth to her second child, Viraj Singh Gill, sooner than expected after her son was born almost three weeks early.

The 35-year-old is believed to have become the first councillor in Chippenham to give birth while serving on the town council since it was formed in the 1980s.

She has served as a councillor

for Monkton over the past two

years and has run MS-2 Store, a newsagents on Eastern Avenue, for more than 12 years with her husband Sat.

Viraj was born at 8.05pm on July 26 at Bath RUH weighing 6lb and 4oz. The couple also have a second child, Leah, who is 11 years old.

“He came early, two weeks and four days early which was a bit of a surprise,” said Mrs Gill, who has been married to her husband since 2000 and lived in Chippenham since 2004.

“I was poorly at the beginning but it was okay at the end and I’m having a few weeks off, I will probably be back to the meetings next month.

“I have got so many cards, probably over 100 and so many presents that even if I didn’t buy him any clothes for the next year he would be fine because we have got so many from people.

“I want to say thank you to all the people in Monkton Park, all the councillors, chief executive and staff at Chippenham Town Council who have been so understanding.

“Also to the nurses at Bath RUH and midwives who were brilliant.

“I will be taking him in to the council so they can see him.”
