A DEVELOPMENT for 140 homes was presented to councillors and members of the public in Chippenham last week.

Known as Gate Farm, the development would be located on 7.09 hectares of land between Abbeyfield School and the Stanley Park Sports Ground.

A public consultation had previously been held earlier in the year at Stanley Park where 60 people attended and outlining planning permission is expected to be submitted to Wiltshire Council in September.

Those present at the meeting heard that a path along the eastern side of the site would remain undeveloped and be used for an Eastern Link Road, should one be

approved as part of

Chippenham’s Site Allocation Plan.

Glenn Godwin, director at Pegasus Planning who presented the plans on behalf of David Wilson Homes, said: “What this application does is safeguard a route. Our proposal is to safeguard that land, should that land become necessary in the

future the 106 agreement allows that to be handed back to the council.”

Councillor Bill Douglas said: “The Eastern Link Road as far as I can see is not proposed in the latest proposal to the inspector but I think we still need a link road and if you can have a southern link road that would create possibilities.”
