A CHIPPENHAM great-grandmother has raised almost £700 for her great-grandson, who suffers from a heart condition, by selling plant pot wellies and cakes.

Myrtle Harris collected 75 pairs of second-hand wellies and packed them with flowers which she sold from her home in Malmesbury Road over the weekend.

The 76-year-old and her husband, Bill, raised the money for their great-grandson, five-year-old Harry Grant, who suffers from Noonan syndrome – a condition which includes a congenital heart defect, small stature, learning problems and blood clotting.

“It was a wonderful day. I wish I’d counted really how many people came through but we sold 50 pairs of wellies,” said Mrs Myrtle.

“We had cream teas and sponge cakes and they were just coming in groups. “We had a young couple come in and I said ‘I don’t recognise them’ to my husband and they had these great big rucksacks.

“They said they had just come back from Vietnam and that this was the warmest welcome they have had since coming back to England. We have raised £650 but that could reach £700 as I have a few more wellies I want to sell.

“When we’ve counted all the money we want to get Harry with a great big cheque and put the photo out because he’s going to need a heart transplant in time.”
