A MAN from Chippenham has been disqualified from driving for two years after appearing at Swindon Crown Court.

Harry Radford, 20, of Audley Road, was sentenced for dangerous driving on May 18 after he failed to stop for police along the B4040 near Cricklade on September 4 2015.

Radford, who was driving a Subaru Impreza, was involved in a pursuit along Cherry Tree Road and White Horse Road. As Radford neared the Culverhay Stores he left the road and mounted a grass verge to get past a moving vehicle.

Radford then continued along Bath Road, towards Common Hill, before driving the wrong way around the roundabout. As well as being disqualified from driving for two years, Radford was sentenced to five months imprisonment suspended for 24 months, and ordered to carry out a total of 150 hours of unpaid work.

Radford will also be undertaking rehabilitation activities and undergo treatment for drug dependency as well as retake an extended driving test and pay a victim surcharge of £100.

Sergeant Phil Connor, of Malmesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed out to Radford. He is a danger to other road users and the manner of his driving on this particular day in September was completely reckless with no regard to others. He was very fortunate that nobody was injured, or worse, killed.

“His speeds were completely dangerous for country roads which are frequented by cyclists and horse riders. He put not just his own life at risk, but the lives of other motorists, pedestrians and his passenger.

“I would like to commend the officers involved in this pursuit – without them, we would not have reached this successful conviction.

“I hope this sentence sends a clear message to other road users intent on driving above the speed limit or in a dangerous manner – Wiltshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service take offences such as this extremely seriously – you will be caught.”
