WOODY from Toy Story and Joy from Inside Out were just some of the stars of the Monkton Park Scarecrow Trail, as this year’s theme centred on Disney characters.

A total of 46 scarecrows were dotted around the Monkton Park estate in Chippenham, as £1,130 was raised from the event which will go towards Monkton Park Primary School.

Starting from the school grounds, the event was held from 10am until dusk last Saturday and Sunday (May 14-15) with a BBQ being held on Saturday afternoon.

“We sold over 250 sheets and I would say we had more than 500 people there which was more than last year,” said Janine Maclean, a committee member from Friends of Monkton Park School and organiser of the Scarecrow Trail.

“We had really positive feedback about the quality of the scarecrows and everyone really seemed to enjoy it.

“It’s a really nice community thing and we had quite a lot of people from off the estate come this year so I think the message has got out there.

“We raised more than £1,000 which is quite good for us and will probably go towards more interactive whiteboards at the school like last year.”

The winning scarecrow, as voted for by those taking part in the trail, was Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph.

Out of the 127 entry sheets returned, eight correctly guessed all the scarecrows with Natasha Canales and Heather Brooks being named as winners and receiving family tickets for the Swindon Steam Railway Museum and Roves Farm near Swindon respectively.
