As the dispute about the closure of the public toilets on Bath Road, Chippenham, reached its height, one resident has argued that another set of toilets have been overlooked.

The public toilets in Borough Parade have been locked shut for a month, but without any explanation.

Richard Hibberd, 69, of Cricketts Lane said: "I haven't been down there today but I know they have been shut for about a month now. They have this great big bar across them which is padlocked and no notice explaining why.

"I can't be the only one that comes into town that has to take water tablets and has to make a quick rush to the nearest loo on occasions."

The council have argued that they want to give town councils the opportunity to run the facilities in future where they would only pay for the operation of the facilities.

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: “The Bath Road and Borough Parade toilets are currently out of use while their future is being discussed and we carry out a cost benefit analysis on them.

"We believe town councils are best placed to understand the demand for the facilities and we will speak to Chippenham again to ensure they do not want to take on these particular ones.”
