A CARE home that looks after adults with physical and learning disabilities in Kington Langley revealed its two new four-legged friends that it will use for patient therapy.

Greathouse care home showed off its two new therapy goats Donald and Daisy on Wednesday which were bought by the care home to provide affection and comfort to their patients, as they aren’t allowed pets inside the house.

At the opening, volunteer Crystal Burberry said: “The reason for getting therapy goats is that it was mentioned to the activity team by resident Nina that she would love a dog to sit on her lap but unfortunately we are not able to keep domestic pets within the home. We decided to do some research and see what we could come up with to help Nina out with this request.

“We sprung on some luck as we heard about some therapy goats that were working wonders over in America as great therapy assets.”

Nina initially kickstarted the project by donating £748 collected after her father’s funeral for the purchase of the goats, one of which has been named after her father. Since then a number of organisations and people helped out with the project including The Vale of Avon Freemans, B&Q, Mole Valley Stores, Test Valley Textiles and Pet Care.

Ms Burberry added: “The goats are doing great. We took Nina, Amy, Helen and Donna over to visit them a couple of weeks ago and so they could see how much fun they were going to be and also the health and wellbeing benefits that they are going to bring the residents of Greathouse.”
