DOZENS of police officers raided a lorry at Chippenham Pit Stop on Saturday (April 16) afternoon, finding what is believed to be 21 illegal immigrants.
After receiving a call at 4.30pm from the driver of the articulated lorry, owned by the Leatrans company, police rushed to the scene where the lorry was then pulled over and searched at Chippenham Pit Stop, just off of junction 17 on the M4.
Police declared the situation as an emergency, removing all of the immigrants from the refrigerated lorry.
Amongst the services which were called out to the scene were armed police units, 14 police vehicles, police dogs and seven ambulances.
Ambulance crews transported the immigrants to Southmead and Swindon hospitals to be given medical examinations.
Update to follow.
