A MAN was arrested at Morrisons supermarket by Chippenham police on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft.

He was arrested at the supermarket in the town on Saturday, January 16, after a second man, who it is believed he was working with, filled a trolley with bottles of alcohol.

The second man, not thought to be local, left the store after his actions caught the attention of staff.

The arrest came days after four men were spotted piling £2,000 worth of whiskey into a trolley and bag for life in Sainsbury's on Bath Road.

Police attended the supermarket on Wednesday, January 13, but the men, who had piled more than 50 bottles into a trolley, had left the store empty handed.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incidents which they believe are connected.
