HEARINGS into a planning document which could have a major impact on Chippenham's future development began on Tuesday (Nov 10).

Planning inspector Patrick Whitehead is presiding over two weeks of hearings regarding the Chippenham Site Allocation Plan in the town hall.

The Chippenham Site Allocation Plan outlines proposed strategic sites to ensure the delivery of housing and employment growth for the town by 2026 as set by the Wiltshire Core Strategy.

Mr Whitehead said the hearings would provide an additional level of clarity for him and that he would be starting on the presumption the plan was sound meaning representatives would need to convince him the plan was unsound.

Today (Nov 10), the inspector is due to discuss the issues which have most upset local residents; transport, accessibility and flooding.

Further hearings will take place tomorrow (Nov12) and Friday (Nov13) and on four days next week concluding on November 20.

The receipt of Mr Whitehead's report is expected before the end of the year with Wiltshire Council hoping to adopt the plan in the New Year.
