ENGLAND international footballer Amy Turner will be at the opening of a football development centre for young girls from Chippenham at Stanley Park tomorrow (Nov6).

The centre will identify and train budding girls from local primary schools who have been spotted as being potential talented players of the future.

The centre is the result of Stanley Park coaches Paul Harvey and Lia Painter working for the last three years in Chippenham’s primary schools running football coaching sessions with around 900 girls.

Mr Harvey said: “It’ll be great for the girls to meet Amy and see that it is possible to play football in the Premier League and for your country. They’ll be able to ask Amy questions and she’s going to play a game with them, which will be a fantastic opportunity for them.

"This is a great development for girls’ football which is already very strong in Chippenham."

The development centre at the Stanley Park sports ground will identify and bring through talented young female players giving them the opportunity to progress into playing for Wiltshire teams and even the national squad.

“We’ve worked with just under 1,000 girls through our schools’ programme," Mr Harvey added.

"This new centre provides a facility to make it possible to identify talented female footballers and work with them individually.

“We’ll be working with the girls on a weekly basis and helping them develop and progress. It would be fantastic if a female footballing star of the future were to come from Chippenham.”

The centre is being backed by Wiltshire Football Association which already supports girls’ teams and is working with the Stanley Park coaches to develop the centre to give girls the opportunity to progress to more advanced levels such as the regional squads.
