A MAN who sexually abused a 12-year-old girl when he was 14 has been warned he could be facing a jail term.

And Jason Hayward, now 41, has been told he must register as a sex offender after admitting the offences more than 20 years ago.

Hayward, of Marshfield Road, Chippenham, pleaded guilty to two sex offences in the four years up to January 1992 when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

He had been accused of repeatedly raping the child but prosecutors said they would not seek a trial after he admitted the other charges.

Recorder Maria Lamb adjourned the case to Thursday, September 17, so a pre-sentence report could be carried out.

She said: "You need to come back for sentence and the judge then needs to have a presentence report on you so will you make sure you cooperate with probation.

"You can have your bail as before on the same conditions. Although I am giving you bail and although I am ordering a pre-sentence report on you, you need to understand that the sentencing judge on the next occasion will have all options open to them."
