THERE was a mad dash at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham earlier as some RE results didn’t arrive from the examination board until this morning.

Around 50 results were printed just minutes before the pupils arrived at 9am.

When they did finally arrive, Hardenhuish found that 70 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades including Maths and English, compared to 61 per cent at Sheldon.

Meanwhile the figure at Abbeyfield was up 15 per cent on 2014 to 75 per cent.

Abbeyfield and Hardenhuish both secured 81 per cent of all entries at a C grade or higher, with Sheldon coming in at 80 per cent.

Hardenhuish head teacher, Jan Hatherell, said: “Hardenhuish has been a buzz of energy this morning with many staff celebrating the results with the pupils, and many parents were present to capture the incredible atmosphere.

“We instil in our pupils the belief that they can succeed and then provide the support and encouragement, together with aspiration, and no little inspiration, for them to achieve great things."

Stand-out performers at the school included Lauren Hussey and Lauren Simms both achieving 11 A* grades while Adam Lloyd, Ciara Irwin and Gemma Beasley all got 10 A* grades.

Meanwhile at Abbeyfield there were amazing results for Kieran Fitzwater (7A* 2A B), Isobel Wiltshire (A** 4A* 6A B), Sam Goring (A** 4A* 4A 3B), and Adam Golledge (2A* 6A 2B).

Kieran said: “I am really happy with that. I’m looking forward to next year because it will be different; I’ve never done economics before and I have chosen subjects I’m good at.”

Headteacher at Abbeyfield Ian Tucker was delighted with his school’s results which saw 85 per cent of students achieving a grade C or above in Maths and 86 per cent in English.

He said: “Many staff commented that the buzz around the school this morning when students collected their results was one of the best they had ever felt.

“These outcomes will be a strong source of inspiration to all the pupils in our school now and we want to congratulate all of our Year 11 cohort for doing so well."

Finally, at Sheldon, twins Marsha and Geniya Burgess-Omelchenko achieved an incredible 19A*s and 7A grades between them while fellow siblings Joe and Alice Tedds picked up 17A*s and 5As.

Alice said: “I’m so relieved. I am a bit shocked with some of them I didn’t expect to do that well but I am really happy.”

With 22 per cent of students achieving five or more A* or A grades, head teacher Neil Spurdell said: “It is difficult to accurately say how good this year’s results are, as there has been so much change surrounding the entry arrangements compared to previous years.

“Our staff and students worked incredibly hard and I am pleased that so many of them will be continuing with us in the Sixth Form from September.”
