PUPILS at Sutton Benger Primary School have enjoyed a day at the beach from the comfort of their own classroom with a seaside-themed arts day.

During the day, which was part of a year-long project to further develop art and design within the school, each class completed five activities.

The school was supported by the Wiltshire Scrapstore, who brought a van full of different materials to create four large boards depicting a seaside scene which are now on display in the school hall, and Up and Under Sports from Bristol.

The Bristol company provided a non-stop energetic dance workshop which saw the children build sandcastles, put on sun cream and mimic sea creatures.

Jill Kelsey, art and design subject leader, said: "During the fun-filled day the pupils developed a wide range of skills and were immersed in a range of learning experiences. All of the work is now presented in a large, colourful and interactive display in our school library."

The enthusiastic pupils also created wind chimes for the school's peace garden, landscapes using chalks and torn paper and created large seaside scenes using sheets of fabric and 3D materials on the playground.

One pupil commented: “I enjoyed getting messy and helping the whole school make a big picture. I can’t wait to see it up.”
