A MEDIEVAL marvels open day will give visitors the chance to step back into Chippenham in the Middle Ages on July 11.

The event, at the Museum and Heritage Centre, will recreate what daily life would have been like in medieval Chippenham and is part of the national Festival of Archaeology, which is in its 25th year.

Town Mayor David Powell will open the event at 11am which is open to the public between 10am and 4pm at the Market Place museum.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of attractions which provide a real feel of what life would have been like in the middle ages with the chance to get up close to hawks and see demonstrations of spinning.

Actors will be bring the history back to life by interpreting the past through performances and displays while renowned historical blacksmith Hector Cole will be at the event with his forge and Druids Field archers will be exhibiting and demonstrating longbow archery.

The museum’s Pastfinders club will be running children’s activities and there will be the chance to have guided tours of the town and Yelde Hall.
