A SCHOOLGIRL from Chippenham has competed in the regional finals of a young chef competition.
Lauren Philips, a Year 11 student at Abbeyfield School in Chippenham, took part in the south west regional finals of the Rotary's Young Chef Competition, held in Wincanton, Somerset last weekend.
Lauren had already progressed through the local and district stages.
Eight schoolchildren, including Lauren, from across the south west were tasked with conjuring up a healthy meal for two. There was no price limit for ingredients.
A panel of judges marked the students on their menu choice, planning, organisational skills, hygiene and preparation skills. The final taste and presentation of the dish also earned marks.
Lauren finished in third place to the delight of Abbeyfield headteacher Trish Shubrook.
advertisement "Lauren is a fabulous young chef and has the potential to go far in this profession if she wanted to," Mrs Shubrook said.
"It was a tough competition with a very high standard of work from all the entrants and I know that it was a very difficult decision for the judges."
