Abbeyfield pupil Daniel Vaughan, 16, is appealing for help to fund a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Arctic.
Daniel, who is studying physics, chemistry, maths and psychology at AS level, is to spend his summer on Disco Island, 800 miles north of the Arctic circle.
He will be one of only 60 students across the UK to have been selected for the British Schools Exploring Society expedition to study how climate change is affecting the Arctic.
Daniel, who lives in Pewsham, said: "Getting used to 24 hours of sunlight in June will be really disorientating. But I am very excited about it."
He has already saved £600 by working in Morrisons but needs to reach the total of £3,500.
