CHIPPENHAM Hospital Radio returned to the airwaves over the weekend following a major studio refurbishment.

The radio station, based in the town’s hospital, stopped producing its live programmes back in January to allow the installation of a new mixing desk and a sophisticated playout system that mixes all the audio together.

The new studio, which was opened by Chippenham mayor Councillor John Scragg, has been funded by donations from the Big Lottery Fund, Wiltshire Council, Chippenham Town Council, Chippenham Borough Lands Charity, The Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon and the Co-op.

Station Manager Simon Hyde said: “It’s fantastic to be back on-air in our brand new studio.

“It follows months of work completing funding applications at both a local and national level and we’re so grateful to the organisations who provided funding for this project, their support has been tremendous in making this possible”

“This really has made a huge difference to our team of volunteers, they now have a really professional working environment in which to broadcast to our listeners.”

The radio station broadcasts to patients and staff at the town’s hospital and can also be heard online via their website and on mobile devices through the tune-in radio app.

Chippenham Hospital Radio is always keen to hear from people who want to get involved with its voluntary work. Full training is provided for those wishing to have a go at broadcasting.
