THE Mayor of London Boris Johnson, joining Michelle Donelan on her campaign trail in Chippenham today, said “The sky’s the limit” for her in politics.

But he would not be drawn on who was most likely to end up in Number 10 – her or him.

Boris Johnson, whose second term as Mayor of London comes to an end next year, is standing as an MP in the West London constituency of Uxbridge and was in Wiltshire to support a fellow Conservative candidate.

On Michelle Donelan he said: “I’ve seen her twice in action and she’s exactly the person we need in parliament.

"She’s a very, very good local campaigner. The sky’s the limit for her.”

At one point he quipped that Labour wanted to take Britain back to the '70s, UKIP to the '50s and the Green Party to the Stone Age.

Mr Johnson and Miss Donelan told the BBC that Mayor of Chippenham and Liberal Democrat John Scragg had told them he hoped Miss Donelan wins on May 7.

But Coun Scragg told the Gazette: “That’s not true, I didn’t say that, I just said good luck. I wish every candidate good luck.”

He said he liked to meet other mayors and was himself originally from London.

“In this town we work together, like the coalition the past four or five years,” he said.
