Chippenham's Business Improvement District (BID) is aiming to rebrand the town and wants the help of people who live and work there.

The BID was voted in place last November by nearly three quarters – 73 per cent – of voters representing local businesses.

It will run for a five-year term until April 2020 and is expected to generate more than £1.5m to invest in projects to better manage and promote the town centre.

Chippenham BID, in conjunction with Chippenham Town Council and Chamber of Commerce, is inviting residents, businesses and people who work in the town to share their views in an online survey.

The results of the survey will help shape a new branding for the town, to be unveiled in June 2015, with the aim of encouraging more visitors and businesses to Chippenham.

It takes about 10 minutes to complete and asks questions like why people visit the town and what needs to be done to encourage more visitors.

BID manager Carolyn Brownell said: “It is vital that we understand exactly how people feel about Chippenham – who they are, what they do, and how they view the town. Our ongoing promotional activity needs to reflect the ambitions of the people and businesses of Chippenham. And as local people will have the best grasp of the town and what needs to be done, we are keen to make sure their opinions are heard and included in our planning.

“The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and will be hugely important, so I am appealing for as many people as possible to take part and have their say on the future of the town.”

Chippenham BID says it will generate £365,500 per year through a levy paid by the 377 town centre businesses.

Their contributions will focus on town centre marketing and events, addressing infrastructure issues like providing extra car parking and ensuring Chippenham is safe, clean and welcoming.
