CHIPPENHAM’S florists are set to be blooming busy this Valentine’s Day with at least 1,500 roses expected to be bought from one alone.
The manager of Coates Florist in Market Place spent Tuesday night at market getting 1,000 red roses and 500 of other colours, imported from Columbia.
Florist Sarah Clarke said: “They’re good quality over there, big heads and long stems and they last a good few days.”
“Men always leave it to the last minute, don’t they?” she joked. “They will come running in on Saturday morning.”
Mrs Clarke said she had noticed an increase in sales of different types of flowers this year.
“Tulips are quite popular,” she said.
