A free weight management programme, Counterweight, will be run at Chippenham Community Hospital from next Friday.

Two dieticians from Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation will lead the programme, which is for people with a body mass index of more than 30, or 28 with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance.

Fortnightly sessions start on January 23, at 11.30am, and last for three months, with participants learning about energy balance, weight loss goals, shopping and label reading, physical activity, lapse techniques, triggers to eating and eating out ideas.

There will be three sessions afterwards, offering support to keep weight off.

Clare Neely, a dietician at St Martin’s Hospital in Bath, said: “The programme is not a short-term fix; it encourages a lifestyle change.”

There is a session at Chippenham Hospital on Friday, for people already signed up. Others can call Clare Neely on 01225 833916 to join.
